| Curtis had been one of Isaac Jenkins’ tae kwon do and aikido students in classes, which were intended to keep kids off the street and learn discipline. Curtis was pressured by an older teenage, Freddie, to help rob Al’s Diner. Freddie was caught and Curtis escaped, but was cornered by Jack Snyder at the docks. Curtis was almost talked down, but hearing approaching sirens, he jumped off the docks and into the river. Since the currents were strong and he wasn’t found, Curtis was presumed dead. When Isaac found him the next day, Curtis was in dire straits. Isaac brought him to Camille for help, and she quickly diagnosed Curtis’s diabetes. A deal was worked out where the charges against Curtis were dropped if Curtis entered a halfway house.
A few months later, Curtis was brought into the E.R. with a pulmonary embolus, from which Ben saved him. Isaac made a deal with Ben that he would investigate Andy’s faked paralysis if Ben would take care of Curtis. Curtis and Ben have become so attached, Ben agreed to an extended three-month trial as Curtis foster father.
Despite Curtis's biological father, Leo Thompson, being an obstacle, Ben was finally able to adopt Curtis, since Curtis’s testimony during the hearing swayed Leo to give up his parental rights. |
