Once Jack realized that Julia was responsible for killing Flashdance, he convinced her to commit herself to the psych ward at Memorial. He finally got tired of all her manipulation and forced her to sign divorce papers. However, those were invalid, as she had recently been declared legally incompetent. She had her mother (who is her legal guardian, now) file, accusing Jack of adultery and several other things. He has given in to Julia’s demands and given her everything that was his, in the hopes of quickly ending their marriage and marrying Carly.
Julia eventually tried a suicide attempt in order to gain some attention. While Jack was there trying to end things with her once and for all, Julia overheard his phone call with Barbara, and mistook Barbara for Carly. Julia called Owen and ordered him to blow up the boathouse. Near the end of the trial, Julia discovered that Hal and Emily were on Owen's trail and made one last-ditch effort to kill Carly. Jack arrived in the nick of time to save Carly from being drowned in quicksand on the razed Carly's Prize.
Finally returned to Oakdale, Holden, Lily and Luke attended Molly and Jake’s wedding. What they didn’t know was that Dante had followed them, still out to hurt Luke, and held Rose at knifepoint at the wedding. Thankfully Jack caught wind of Dante’s return and was in the right position to shoot Dante.
Jack was swamped with dealing with several cases simultaneously: the disappearances of Carly, Emily and Rose, the Nick Scudder murder and Hal’s sudden disappearance. On top of that, he broke his leg while investigating inside of Fairwinds, and was taken hostage, tortured and nearly killed by newly released Julia. Simon and Craig were instrumental in Jack being saved.
Jack finally recovered Carly from James in an exchange for Barbara. In an effort to get Carly to quickly regain custody of Parker (who had been given temporarily to Rosanna), Jack had Carly and Parker move in with him.
