As the World Turns: Oakdale Jailbirds!
Look, Ali, another relative! Well, sort of: Your sister/mother’s
half-sister, Betsy, was, once upon a time, married to Craig. Which
is actually what triggered this somewhat sordid tale.
It all started because of a disturbingly common Oakdale problem:
Betsy was in love with Steve Andropolous, but married Craig Montgomery
instead. Then, Betsy had a baby girl by Steve, Danielle (named after
Betsy and Emily’s dad, Dan, who, technically, Ali, is your
biological grandfather). Craig was thrilled when he thought baby
Danni was his and, despite already being a somewhat devious and
shady guy (he’d faked paralysis to hold onto Betsy and tried
to kill Steve with a truck-bomb), he truly loved the little girl.
When Betsy and Danni left Craig for Steve, Craig was not a happy
guy. Which was why, when Betsy (suffering from amnesia after an
accident that left her prematurely presumed dead) returned to Oakdale
and happened to bump into Craig before Steve, Craig was able to
convince her that they were still married. Craig then stole Danielle
from Steve and happily reunited the still-somewhat-fuzzy Betsy with
her "family."
The truth eventually came out. Kidnapping charges were filed. Craig
did some time behind bars. It wasn’t the last time.
