Saints or Sinners?
Ah, St. Patrick's Day.... A day for celebrating all the saints and sinners in our lives.
Alas, on daytime, separating the Saints from the Sinners can get a bit tricky. After all, some of our biggest sinners once had a moment of (borderline) sainthood.
For Instance....

Year: 1994
Sinner: Emily Stewart
Lifetime of Sins: Teen-age mistress to evil James Stenbeck; Tricked Holden Snyder into marriage; Broke Paul Stenbeck's heart; Affair and baby Daniel with married Tom Hughes
Saintliest Moment: When Emily's mom, Susan, wanted to have a baby with her younger husband, Larry, Emily generously donated an egg to help her mom conceive. Baby Alison was born later that year. And Emily never lets Susan forget it...

Year: 2000
Sinner: Carly Tenny
Lifetime Sins: Stopped sister Roseanna's marriage to Mike by revealing she'd slept with the groom; Lied to Hal about Parker's paternity (turned out she wasn't lying, but...); Committed bigamy by marrying Hal, John, and Brad, all while still being married to Winston Lowe; Left Jack Snyder at the alter.
Saintliest Moment: Left Jack Snyder at the altar. Carly, it seems, was only protecting Jack and Parker from the vindictive Lowe. Unfortunately, by the time Lowe was dead, Jack had moved on to Julia.

But, to be fair, some of our biggest saints have a sinful skeleton (or two) in their closets.

Year: 1990
Saint: Lily Walsh (Oh, no! Not Lily!)
Sin: After years of being everybody's good girl, Lily finally had enough. An overnight success as a management consultant, Lily illegally obtained Walsh company secrets to use against her mother, Lucinda. Equally ruthless about her personal life, Lily made a play for sweet Frannie's boyfriend, Sean, by offering him two things no man could resist: sex and money. It didn't matter than Sean gallantly refused. Lily made sure Frannie saw her exiting Sean's apartment, anyway. It wasn't until Holden returned to town that Lily went back to her sweet ways. That is, until a certain complex Simon came into the picture...

Year: 1966-1970
Saint: Tom Hughes (Oh, no! Not Tom!)
Sin: Fed up with his mother, Lisa's, loose lifestyle, self-described "Boy Scout" Tom rebelled. The teen first got hooked on speed, then participated in a drug-store robbery! About to flunk out of college, Tom joined the Army (where he conceived Vietnamese daughter Lien), but eventually got sent home for self-inflicting injuries. Back in Oakdale, the still-drug-addicted Tom stood trial for the murder of his mother's latest husband! (And you thought you knew the man....)

And Special Mention to a Saint Who Tried Sinning... And Liked It!
|
 |
Year: 1986
Saint: Barbara Ryan (Are you kidding? Barbara? A Saint?)
Sin: After almost a decade of abuse at the hands of her evil husband, James, and manipulation by her bratty son, Paul, Barbara made a decision: "No more Miss Doormat!" Chucking the sweet persona that died along with her gallant second husband, Gunner, Barbara set her sights on her ex-fiancé, Tom Hughes. Who cared that Tom was married to Margo! (After all, Margo had once had an affair with James, so...) The newly evil Barbara lured a drunk Tom into her bed, and convinced him they'd made love. That first sin felt so good, Barbara never went back!
