"Behind Every Great Dusty is a Sexy Gal Like Molly"

Ever since Molly (Lesli Kay) signed on to invest in Java, the sparks started flying between her and Dusty (Grayson McCouch) again. Whether she's busting his chops about Jennifer (Jennifer Ferrin) or flirtatiously offering an alternative to Rose (Martha Byrne), Molly knows all the right buttons to push. And Dusty pushes right back. We spoke to Grayson McCouch and Lesli Kay to get their take on the Molly/Dusty dynamic, what makes their scenes click and why people can't get enough of Molly and Dusty.

Ever since she walked in on Dusty and Jennifer, it seems as if Molly is the only one who can put Dusty in his place.

Grayson McCouch: Very interesting, putting me in my place...

Lesli Kay: No, it's not so much putting him in his place as...

Grayson McCouch: She lets me be who I need to be. She leaves me alone, which is the primary ingredient of paramount importance to any relationship! [Laughs] Leave me alone!

Lesli Kay: Molly gets that. Molly knows that. First of all, her relationship with Jake [Tom Eplin] wasn't that normal. Molly knew that she had as much baggage in the closet as he did, and it's the same thing with Dusty.

What is it that makes Molly and Dusty so drawn to each other?

Grayson McCouch: Molly's cool, because she's the only woman in town who can be a little objective when it comes to the significance of sex.

Lesli Kay: Molly said to Craig, it slips out, that Dusty's the best in bed since Jake.

Grayson McCouch: So of course she wants to be with me, 24/7. She needs me.

Lesli Kay: Dusty always needs something from Molly, and Molly always needs something from Dusty. Molly's not judgmental, she can't throw stones, living in a glass house. And he seems to be the same way. He hasn't, not once, called me on my stuff, to where I wouldn't be with him because of it.

Grayson McCouch: Dusty gels best with those who don't shadow a moral umbrella over the roof.

Lesli Kay: Not to mention he's the best-looking guy in Oakdale. And the first time Molly saw him since childhood, what did Molly do? Stuck her tongue down his throat. So that kind of set the precedent right there.

Grayson McCouch: They're cool with one another. Bottom line.

What's going through Molly's head at this point?

Lesli Kay: My feelings are at this point, I don't think Molly realizes yet that she actually has deeper feelings. So now it is all about sex. It is all about "I get you. I totally understand you." I've been his friend through all this. I'm the one who told him to buy the club to win Rose over.

Grayson McCouch: And you got in to get close to me. You got excited because you got to be an owner with me, hence increase your proximity to me. Yes, the objective is always to get closer to me.

What do you feel is the crux of Molly and Dusty's relationship?

Grayson McCouch: Let me tell you what Molly and Dusty are all about and why it works: the dynamic works because Molly is very female in her character. And Dusty is kind of exclusively male in his character. So the two set up quite a romantic dynamic where they play off one another's masculinity and femininity. That's what you're seeing. She's a woman. Dusty's a man. You got a fun couple to watch.

Lesli Kay: There's another aspect of it too. And that's that we enjoy working together so much. Because I completely admire Grayson's work. I respect his choices. And I like his input. And the bottom line is, it's fun. And I think that's what you see. Not to compare, because I don't like to do that, but there are some similarities to the dynamic that I had with Tom [Eplin]. On a personal level, it's the same type of admiration that I have.

Grayson McCouch: I'd like to return the compliment. Coming to work with Lesli makes life so easy. She's a very open and giving actress. It's always about throwing away the dialogue and waiting to see the magic that comes through Lesli Kay, because she's a very open and giving actress. It's always a pleasure to work with her.

Lesli Kay: And honestly, there's nothing that turns me on more, and I'm not sure if this is Lesli or Molly or both, than to hear him go at it. When this one gets angry or picks me up and physically chucks me out of a room, it's a turn on. I'm sorry, it is. Maybe that's just my sickness.

Grayson McCouch: We're not swapping social roles. She lets me be the guy, and I let her be the girl. You can't have the woman wearing the pants with a guy like Dusty. And you can't have me cooking when you have a girl like Molly around.

Lesli Kay: And she gets his sense of humor and his passion.

Grayson McCouch: Molly accepts Dusty for the hustler he is. She's probably down with any move he creates. And who doesn't want a woman like that under his wing? Behind every great Dusty is a sexy gal like Molly.

Lesli Kay: I love him so much. It's true.

Lesli Kay & Grayson McCouch: [Singing] "We go together..."

Grayson McCouch: We actually crack each other up. And we know when we come to work together that we're going to get through it with bells on, because we always make it work.

Lesli Kay: It's Molly and Dusty, and they should be as hot... it's love in the afternoon.

Grayson McCouch: People basically want to take the two of them home to bed with them. Here's what it's really about. Pheromones. At the end of the day, these kids go crazy for one another.
