B&B's Oscar Marone: The Gambling Man Who is Oscar Marone? Well Brian Gaskill had more to do with building the background of his character than most actors do. Brian is an actor who takes his craft very seriously, and he has a hard time portraying a character unless he understands who that character is and where they're coming from -- literally and philosophically. This is why Brian headed off to Vegas to research his character when he was first cast in the role of Oscar Marone. This talented actor, however, didn't stop his character research simply with his trip to Vegas. Brian sketched a whole background story of where Oscar came from, and many of his ideas ended up in the B&B scripts. "He came from Atlantic City and when he was fifteen years old, his mother died," explains Brian. "His father was small time in Atlantic City and he decided he wanted to try having a casino of his own. After his wife died, he decided he'd try it out in Vegas. So from age15 up, he [Oscar] lived in Vegas with his father and really got to know the casino business. For the last two years since his father died, he's been running the casino on his own. The mob or the syndicate has basically been wanting the casino for themselves and [trying to] get him out of it."
Brian is also originally from New Jersey, so his character's hometown is not at all foreign to him. "There's a certain kind of attitude that I wanted him to have," insisted Brian. "I was trying to make it as complex as possible, as opposed to just simply somebody who grew up in Vegas -- he has these two different backgrounds going on." Brian also personally relates to Oscar's fascination with the lights and action of Las Vegas. "What he really loves, from the time he got there, were the lights and [the fact that] it's always show time," said Brian. "The gambling was part of it, but he's more of a gambler with life. He doesn't really care about the money part of it. The way I feel when I go there is, I don't gamble, but I still love Vegas and it's just bigger than life. The lights and the shows and it's a whole other world. It's really like going to another planet. Oscar got there as a 15-year-old and it was like a playground." Since coming to Los Angeles, Oscar tried to cut his ties to Las Vegas by selling his casino and opening a new club Ozzz. Unfortunately, the opening night ended in disaster when, the mob sabotaged Oscar's club and his new start by dropping a huge chandelier that fell on Macy. At this point, Oscar blames himself for this tragic accident and it is unclear how he will move on with his life and fulfill his lifelong dreams of owning a nightclub. Keep tuning in to B&B to see what is in store for Oscar Marone.
