SC_Monique: Can you tell me about what is happening with your storyline? I hear that your character is involved in some manipulations with Massimo.

Joseph Marcell: Yes, my character is Hudson and on the surface [he] appears to be a butler, [but] he's Massimo's secret weapon. Massimo and I have a long history together, we were in the Merchant Navy together and. I really am his assistant rather than [the butler], but nobody knows except the audience and so I'm very, I was going to say sneaky, let's say I'm very observant for Massimo. I know exactly what's going on about everybody and then we sit and plot and I research for him and you knowbs competitors as well as his personal enemies. So we should be a formidable team.

SC_Monique: So Hudson is Massimo's eyes and ears then?

Joseph Marcell: Yes. I suppose in a sense his only friend really; because the one person he knows he can trust absolutely until of coarse he can't (laughs).

SC_Monique: Do we know what the history is between Hudson and Massimo?

Joseph Marcell: It's only been hinted at yet and I don't think it's very clear in their mind what it might be, but there was an instance where Massimo had to go away and it was Hudson that took care of stuff. It was personally dangerous as well as financially dangerous.

SC_Monique: So even Jackie and Ridge and Nick don't know the history and the connection between the two of them.

Joseph Marcell: None of them know. The only person who will get an inkling as what their relationship is, is Oscar. We need Oscar for something. He tells Oscar this is my personal assistant.

SC_Monique: So Massimo and Hudson are trying to use Oscar to do something to Eric Forrester, to get him out of the picture?

Joseph Marcell: Yes, this is where it becomes personal. Eric Forrester is in our sights, yes.

SC_Monique: You've had a lot of experience in television, but have you ever been in a soap opera?

Joseph Marcell: Not a soap opera, I was on the The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air for about six years so that's enough, but this is my first daytime.

SC_Monique: So it seems there is a potential for a lot of comedy, between Hudson and Massimo.

Joseph Marcell: There is. As you know this is my second week so we're just beginning.

SC_Monique: And you also have a strong theatrical background?

Joseph Marcell: Yes, from Britain. I am a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and last year I worked with the Washington Shakespeare Company, the Shakespeare Company in DC, and theatre is the stuff that I've done most of. I've done Shakespeare in India and Europe.

SC_Monique: What do you appreciate about working in television as opposed to theater?

Joseph Marcell: Well, I suppose the first thing I should say is the money but you know, that's what is expected, but no it's another aspect of the profession that one needs to be really good at. I find I'm not very good at repeating myself, I try to do something different all the time and TV I suppose is much more pressured, it requires a different mind-set so I'm beginning to understand, I have to learn that.
