B&B: John McCook's (Eric) Coming of Age
Remember when The Bold and the Beautiful began and we were first introduced to the glamorous world of the Forrester family? When John McCook was initially approached by B&B's creator Bill Bell Sr. to play the part of the dashingly handsome Forrester patriarch, he looked a lot younger than a father of adult children. "When I first came in to see Bill Bell, I hadn't seen him in seven years," explained John. "We left on very good terms when I left Y&R, but I hadn't seen him and nor had he seen me. So when I came in he said, 'Oh! I thought you would look older. This character is older than you, but if you would do it, I would be very happy because then I would have you and Susan Flannery and we can build the show.'"

It has been 17 years since B&B was first created and John McCook is still dazzling fans with his portrayal of Eric Forrester. "Back when we started the show, we put grey [in my hair]," says John. "They made sure that this was the dad, this was the mom and these are the kids." John McCook has now truly grown into the role of the patriarch. "I did that [put the grey in my hair] for about a year, but it's all behavioral, it's the way you're behaving -- that's the father, this is the mother. Then, it was such a pain we decided to stop doing it and it was fine because I had enough salt and pepper in my hair anyway. As it turns out, I'm just at the right age to play this character now."
