B&B's New Bridget Forrester: Getting to Know You
B&B's Emily Harrison has quite the challenge on her hands. Not only is she stepping into the prominent role of Bridget Forrester, but her character is heavily involved in front and center storylines on B&B. Newcomer Emily is taking all this in her stride and is excited by the challenge of playing a character that is already strongly developed and loved by B&B fans. We had the chance to chat with Emily after her first day of taping, read on and find out more about the actress behind the new Bridget.

SC_Monique: So you've taped one episode so far, how are you enjoying it so far?

Emily Harrison: Yes, I taped yesterday. It was a good day. I'm having a great time. Everyone's a family here so they made me feel really welcome and comfortable and it's going to be a good place to work, I have a feeling.

SC_Monique: What are your impressions so far about the character of Bridget?

Emily Harrison: Well first of all I have to say Jennifer (Finnigan) just did such an amazing job playing this character. I actually was just watching it, it was on at 12:30 in my room here, and she's a terrific actress, so they're big shoes to fill definitely but it's good. Also because she's turned this character into a really loved character and she has so many fans already, so as an actor it's a great opportunity to step into a character that's already been developed and has a great storyline going. I'm really lucky in that sense.

SC_Monique: Have you already started working with Brian Gaskill (Oscar) and Sean Kanan (Deacon)?

Emily Harrison: Yes, I worked with Brian, I haven't worked with Sean yet.

SC_Monique: But you probably know that there is a bit of a love triangle that's going on?

Emily Harrison: Oh the love triangle, love the love triangle!

SC_Monique: What have you done to get into the character? Have you been reading or watching past episodes?

Emily Harrison: Yes, I watched about ten hours worth of past episodes, and my manager's wife is the biggest Bold and the Beautiful fan on the face of the earth. She's been watching since it started, and so she was so excited when I got the job, she's filled me in on all the little nuances of Bridget that I had missed along the way.

SC_Monique: So do you feel like you've got a good understanding of who she is?

Emily Harrison: Yes, [I have] a good understanding of where she's been, and I'm starting to learn more about her. [I'm] excited to see where she's going in her future and what love she's going to find.

SC_Monique: Is there anything specific you've been doing, any method you use to get into the character or develop your own style about Bridget?

Emily Harrison: I've trained in the [Sanford] Meisner technique so that's the cornerstone of my training and what I rely on to really do my preparation. But it seems that every job is different and you just have to spend a lot of time thinking about who your character is, and why she feels the way she does, and the things that she's been through in her life and you know you bring pieces of yourself to that too where you can relate to. I don't have necessarily one specific way that I always prepare for a role but like I said Meisner is where I start and then from there I just follow my gut and my heart and stuff that I've been through.

SC_Monique: Did the casting of you in the role all happen quite quickly?

Emily Harrison: Oh my gosh, it was so fast!

SC_Monique: When did you first audition?

Emily Harrison: I first auditioned for Brad (Bell, executive producer/head writer) last year, so I had met with Brad. I actually just had a baby four months ago so I had not been auditioning for quite a while. I was planning on waiting for pilot season to start auditioning again and then my manager got the call from The Bold and the Beautiful saying they were looking to recast this role and would I be interested in coming in for an audition and I thought, 'You know this is a perfect job for this time in my life, so I will come in and audition. I would love to.' So I came in and I auditioned and then came in for a screen test and then I found out I got the job a couple weeks ago, and it's just been a whirlwind since then. It's happening very fast.

SC_Monique: A lot of people say that daytime is the perfect job for a mother.

Emily Harrison: Oh yes, definitely.

SC_Monique: So I'm sure you're thrilled about the whole situation.

Emily Harrison: Yeah, thrilled to be shooting here in LA because that's where our home is. Everyone's invited me to bring my baby to work with me so he can be here, and I think it's going to be, like I said, a perfect job for this time in my life.

SC_Monique: Have you had any experience in daytime?

Emily Harrison: No I haven't, this is my first daytime job, only episodic TV and film.

SC_Monique: Tell me about some of the other projects you've done, I heard you were in American Dreams.

Emily Harrison: I was in the episode where the Beatles came to town, which was very exciting, and I worked on Seventh Heaven, so [I've done] a couple of WB shows. I also did a WB show called The O'Keefe's with Judge Reinhold. I never saw that show, but I did that. I went to Japan a couple years ago and worked in a film over there, and I was just in Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star

SC_Monique: How are you enjoying the schedule so far, or at least from what you can tell about your future schedule?

Emily Harrison: The past two days have been great. I haven't had to get up too early, even though you know with Jack [my son] I rarely sleep, but it's good. I'm looking forward to having three days where I can spend a lot of time with my son. I'm looking forward to having a couple days a week where I can immerse myself into a new role. I've got the best of both worlds going for me right now.
