SC_Monique: The creation of the song "Going Back Again" has been a pretty involved process for you. Did you come up with the idea to write a song for Nick and Brooke and, did you talk to Brad [Bell] about it? Jack Wagner: Yeah, the whole germination of the music idea was you know something that Brad kind of threw out there and I never wanted to do the music unless we could really, truly justify it in the character. So we came up with the idea that well you know he's out at sea, he plays his guitar when he's out there to kill time so we eventually saw him noodling on his guitar here and there and then he sang a little something and so we've been able to work music into the character through that. Otherwise I really didn't want to just all of a sudden have this sea captain be some type of entertainer, so I think that's believable and now we can kind of find this guys creative roots you know and this song is a song that I wrote; it touches my personal life as well as works perfectly for the characters so it's just, I killed two birds with one stone with the lyrics on this song. SC_Monique: So, this song is essentially Nick's love song to Brooke? Jack Wagner: Well, it's the way he's speaking his heart. The song is called "Going Back Again", and the song is about a man that is not going to give upon something that he believes in. And also something that's good, believing in something that's good so it tells a story. Just like Rod Stewart says, "Every picture tells a story don't it?" SC_Monique: In the storyline, Nick composes the song when he is on his way to see Brooke. When does he sing it to her? Jack Wagner: He does not sing it to her, actually. On his own he rehearsed it for the house band and shocks this little dive marina bar. They've created a house band which are a bunch of friends of Nick's, musician friends. Nick shows up there, they're there, they're plugging in, they're talking about the song, and he's just going to perform at Chuck's. And Brooke comes in. She is coming to tell him that this is just going to be a parent thing, a platonic thing. She says, "As much as it feels right, I just left my husband for this, but at the same time I'm not going to." That's where the story is right now; the performance of the song and the eye contact and actually what that song does for the character of Brooke. SC_Monique: I know you had great success with the song "All I Need" which you performed on General Hospital. What are the plans in terms of promoting "Going Back Again?" Jack Wagner: CBS just purchased the song so they're going to play it. They bought it for their Sweeps campaign so they're going to play it every time they have a commercial about any of their CBS daytime date. They fell in love with the song, which I couldn't be happier [about]. You know I wanted to create the same formula, if I'm going to do music let's try to do music so it can get out there and people can hear the song and like the same formula I did on General Hospital when I had my hits, so that's what we're doing. We're going to play it as background love theme for the characters and I'm going to be performing it on the show. SC_Monique: Are you performing it just the one time in Chuck's bar? Jack Wagner: Yeah, as of right now. There are a couple little acoustic things but I don't, I don't really want it to become Nick the performing sea captain, so it's going to be selective. We can always flash back to that; you can always go back and see that performance we thought as opposed to actually him playing again. | ADVERTISEMENT
