INTERVIEW WITH ALEXANDRE BORGES
Who is Acácio?
A soccer player at the top of his career. He's been sold to an English team and is self-immersed in a moment of total vanity. He comes into BOSSA NOVA's story to have English lessons so that he can communicate with his new team. He's hilarious, because in the beginning he only wants to learn how to talk to journalists, but his manager, Gordo, decides he needs to learn a more specific language, that is, for the soccer field. Then his vocabulary lessons begin including curse words, offensive words, anything so that he can keep the face of an aggressive player. That's when his classes start to drift into very funny open demonstrations of "machismo". As a result, his relationship with his teacher becomes suddenly very awkward, since she is used to giving lighter classes.
Did you draw inspiration from any particular soccer player in the construction of your character?
I started with the concept of what most soccer player are like nowadays. In general, most of then come from humble beginnings, several grew up in slums, and soccer changes their lives 100%. They are freed from a life of very limited possibilities and enter the world of success, of loyal fans. These players become almost a pop star, they make millions, and because of their humble origins, they like to wear flashy clothes, show off brand new imported cars, they get all the girls they want and are idolized by the public in general. They are almost semi-Gods, someone who's beyond good and evil. We wanted to show all these aspects, without any criticism. It's actually sort of an homage to such a successful person, loved by so many sports fans.
