INTERVIEW WITH ALEXANDRE BORGES (CONT'D)

How do you see Rio de Janeiro's role in the story?
Rio de Janeiro is a city that's changing fast and has catapulted many of the most important behavior changes in the history of the country. Unlike other major big cities, Rio still allows people the chance to go for a relaxing stroll out in the streets, to contemplate things and people. It's a city where you'll still find values like romance, beauty, and nostalgia. In that sense, I think the film shows both the city and its residents' commitment to this eternal search of romance and all the romantic ideals. When these love encounters have Rio as their location, they acquire even more lyricism and sense of humor, and they become lighter. In BOSSA NOVA, this joie de vivre brings Brazilians and foreigners together. I think BOSSA NOVA speaks to the contemporary man in search of love and his dreams.

What was your favorite scene?
I really like the scene in which Mary Ann is teaching curse words and Acácio, well, he has this womanizer side to him. The scene begins with "fuck you", "son of a bitch", until the tension escalates to a highly excited mood. It was cool to do that scene.
