Ben Becker
(Peter)
Becker was born in Bremen, Germany in 1964. He grew up in Berlin with his mother, Monika Hansen who was an actor, and her companion Otto Sander, also an actor. After working as a stagehand, Becker began studying acting and made his debut at Hamburg's Ernst Deutsch Theater. In addition to extensive theater work, Becker has appeared on television and in numerous films -- often in the role of the villain.
The role of Peter was tempting "because I find it interesting to tell the love story from Peter to Elias. I tried to play it in such a fashion that the audience is captured without thinking about the fact that this is a gay story. I do not want to exaggerate, but in the age of AIDS, it is important to play a gay man that audiences can be fond of so that they accept his love as what it is, something totally normal.
Joseph Vilsmaier on Ben Becker: "When Ben came to the rehearsals, murmuring went through the room- "That's him!" And, indeed, Ben is wonderful. He captures the smallest reactions within Peter, all his pride and vulnerability. That goes straight to the heart. When Ben was finished with his scenes and left the set, he cried, and I got quite upset too. He is ideal in the part."
