IRWIN W. YOUNG (producer), a pillar of the New York film community, has helped bring numerous independent films to the screen through Du Art Film Laboratories, where he is chairman of the board. In addition to his work at Du Art, Young is president of the Western Broadcasting Corporation of Puerto Rico, president of the Film Society of Lincoln Center, Inc., and board member of the Independent Feature Project in New York. Young has produced many award-winning films, having collaborated with his brother, Robert, on several, including "Caught." Young was the associate producer of "Nothing But a Man" (1964), and producer of "Alambrista!" (1978 Camera d'Or winner). He served as executive producer of J. Terrence Mitchell's "Get Rollin" (1980), as well as "American Me" (1992), directed by and starring EDWARD JAMES OLMOS. Young has served on many film panels and committees, and his past positions include board member and chairman of The Moving Image Inc., and president of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE). The recipient of many prestigious awards, Young has continually been honored for his work in the independent film arena and for his support of independent filmmakers. He received an annual Gotham "Lifetime Achievement" Award from the Independent Features Project in 1991, the 1988 New York State Governor's Arts Award (presented by Mario Cuomo), and the Technical Achievement Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1979.
