The Garden of the Finzi-Continis
A film by Vittorio De Sica

The newly restored version of one of the great classics of European cinema. THE GARDEN OF THE FINZI-CONTINIS is adapted from Giorgio Bassani's 1962 semiautobiographical novel, that chronicles the gradual disintegration of the Jewish community living in Italy at the beginning of World War II. As Fascist persecution of the Jews escalates from the onset of Benito Mussolini's anti-Semitic edicts in 1938 to the mass arrests and deportations in 1943, the wealthy Finzi-Contini family open their lush gardens to the persecuted friends of their daughter, Micol, and their son, Alberto. It is through the eyes of one of these friends-a middle-class, Jewish-Italian student named Giorgio-that the story of unrequited love, set in tragic historic times, unfolds.

Opens on November 8th, 1996
