Goya as a young man - Jose Coronado

One of Spain's most in demand actors since Vicente Aranda, in "La mirada del otro," made him the hardened lover who lives life to the limit. Men of action, rediscovered film legends, and classic seducers all form part of his filmography. Fascinated by the atmosphere at court and driven on by his talent, Goya arrives in Madrid from his home town of Zaragoza during the reign of Charles III. His minimal education does not prevent him from understanding the new liberal tendencies which have been imported from France, and soon he is part of a select group of intellectuals who make him aware of the Enlightenment. His relationship with them causes him problems until the very day of his death in exile.

"There's a strange paradox about Goya's life. On the one hand it seems that the only thing which interested him was work, more than his sentimental and sexual relationships. But there is also evidence that he liked to think of himself as a ladykiller, as a seducer of great women. But I see him above all as a visionary, a man ahead of his times."

Goya: "I fought bulls when I was young. I could have been a great bullfighter - I had the talent. I was all set for it - believe me - until one day a young bull got me and left me with a limp. Nobody knows that. So I'm not frightened of anyone with a sward in his hand. I don't fight with weapons - I fight with my brush.
