KELLY MACDONALD (Susan) was born in Glasgow. She was picked out from an open audition to play Diane in Danny Boyle's film TRAINSPOTTING. She then went on to play Amy in FLOWERS OF THE FOREST, followed by two short films, playing Sharon in DANCING SOME DAYS and Wendy in DEAD EYE DICK. Kelly played the lead role of Stella in STELLA DOES TRICKS, Hortense in COUSIN BETTE and recently Elpeth in MY LIFE SO FAR directed by Hugh Hudson and Isobel Knollys in ELIZABETH.

I had seen KELLY MACDONALD'S work in TRAINSPOTTING and I thought she had a rare spark. It was hard to steal her from the set of ELIZABETH even for two nights but skillful scheduling finally paid off and she turned up. It is very difficult for an actor to just arrive on a film that is well under way. Everyone has already bonded and you can feel very outside of things. What an actress this girl is. She has all of the right instincts and never oversells a thing. She is someone I would very much like to work with again.
