Hadfield studied drama at RADA where he first met Kenneth Branagh in 1979 and the two became good friends. It was here that Hadfield played his first Polonius to Branagh's first Hamlet. Fifteen years later Hadfield is playing Polonius again but points out that he is still not old enough for the role. In the intervening years, he has also appeared in two other productions of "Hamlet" - at the Royal Shakespeare Company when he played Reynaldo and Osric and on BBC Radio when he played the First Gravedigger in Branagh's Renaissance Theatre Company production. Hadfield has worked extensively in the theatre with a string of appearances for the RSC including Grumio in "The Taming of the Shrew," Aguecheek in "Twelfth Night" and a number of roles for director Adrian Noble in "Henry VI," "Edward IV" and "Richard III." His film credits include Stephen Poliakoff's "Century" and Chris Mogens' "Just Like a Woman." He also featured in a leading role in Kenneth Branagh's "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein."
