FRED BERNER (Producer) is the president of Fred Berner Films, an independent, New York-based film and television production/development company.

n addition to "Pollock," Berner's varied and distinguished previous productions include both Hollywood and independent films. Among these projects are "The Farmhouse," starring Blythe Danner and directed by Marcus Spiegel, which premiered on The Sundance Channel over the fall; Twentieth Century Fox's "The Great White Hype," directed by Reggie Hudlin and starring Samuel L. Jackson, Jeff Goldblum, and Damon Wayans; Louis Malle's "Vanya on 42nd Street," from David Mamet's adaptation of Andre Gregory's stage production of the Chekov play; Maggie Greenwald's "The Ballad of Little Jo," for Fine Line Features; "Straight Talk," with James Woods and Dolly Parton, for Hollywood Pictures; "Miss Firecracker," starring Holly Hunter, Tim Robbins, Mary Steenburgen, Alfre Woodard, and Scott Glenn; and "Without Warning: The James Brady Story," for HBO Pictures, which starred Beau Bridges. Mr. Bridges earned an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Cable Ace Award for his performance in the title role of this highly acclaimed motion picture for television.

Fred Berner Films' most recent television venture was "Murder in a Small Town," written by and starring Gene Wilder. Directed by Joyce Chopra, the film, which aired in January, 1999, on A&E, also stars Cherry Jones and Mike Starr. Berner is the executive producer of the Emmy-nominated "About Us: The Dignity of Children," a two-hour primetime special, hosted by Oprah Winfrey, which aired in 1997. Other television productions include "Hidden in America," starring Beau Bridges, Jeff Bridges, and Frances McDormand, for Showtime, which received a Golden Globe nomination, and "Lakota Woman," directed by Frank Pierson in association with Fonda Films for TNT's Native American Series. Additional television credits include "But...Seriously," a theatrical-length documentary, executive produced by Rob Reiner for Showtime and Castle Rock Entertainment; "Rising Son," for TNT, directed by John Coles and starring Brian Dennehy and Matt Damon; and the Cable Ace nominee "Bette Midler's Mondo Beyondo," directed by Thomas Schlamme, for HBO.
