John McCarthy

composer

LOVE & HUMAN REMAINS is the first feature film John McCarthy has scored. He met Arcand at a party in 1992, and after listening to Arcand's ideas about what kind of score he wanted, McCarthy prepared a demo. Arcand liked McCarthy's work, and hired him.

Concurrently, McCarthy, a former sessions musician, signed to compose the score for Alliance Communications' feature film, PARIS FRANCE.

McCarthy began his music career as a classical flute player, studying at The Royal Conservatory of Music, and moving on to the jazz programme at Humber College, where he studied performance and composition.

He made his living over the next ten years in rock music, playing saxophone and keyboards with such bands as Ian Hunter and Frozen Ghost. He worked as a sessions musician on albums including "Frozen Ghost," "Wild 'T' Springer," "David Chester," "But I'm Just a Kid," and most recently, "John Biancale," which he also produced.

In 1991, McCarthy turned his attention to composing for film, and quickly landed a job for "On Our Own," a television pilot. Most recently, he composed the score for the four-part TV documentary "Born Talking," hosted by Jonathan Miller, a U.K.-Canada-Australia co- production.
