ANDREW GUMPERT REJOINS COLUMBIA PICTURES AS
SENIOR EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, BUSINESS AFFAIRS
Culver City, CA May 3, 2005 - Andrew Gumpert has rejoined Columbia Pictures as Senior Executive Vice President, Business Affairs, it was announced today by Bob Osher, Chief Operating Officer of the Columbia Motion Picture Group.
In his new position, Gumpert will report to Osher while overseeing the business affairs team at Columbia Pictures. As the studio's principal dealmaker for film projects, Gumpert will supervise the division responsible for negotiating all talent deals, rights to feature film projects, and co-production financing agreements.
"Andrew is one of the most talented and well respected lawyers working in business affairs today," said Osher. "We are thrilled that he has decided to return to Columbia, where he worked earlier in his career and is a very familiar face."
Before joining Columbia Pictures, Gumpert spent six years in the business affairs department at Dimension Films, most recently as Executive Vice President, Head of Business and Legal Affairs at Dimension Films, where he oversaw the division's financing and talent deals. In particular, Gumpert oversaw director/writer/producer Robert Rodriguez's overall deal with the company and was responsible for business affairs on films including Spy Kids and its two sequels, Sin City, and two co-financing partnerships with Columbia on Once Upon a Time in Mexico and the upcoming The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl in 3-D.
From 1997 to 1999, Gumpert was Vice President Business/Legal Affairs at Interscope Communications, during which time he oversaw such projects as Very Bad Things and What Dreams May Come. He previously worked in the legal department at Columbia Pictures from 1995-1997.
Between 1992 and 1995, he spent three years at the law firm of Hill, Wynne, Troop and Meisinger, where he represented a wide range of entertainment clients, including Columbia Pictures.
