Joe Matukewicz Named Senior Vice President Of Acquisitions For Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions

CULVER CITY, CA (December 05, 2011) - Joe Matukewicz has joined Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) as Senior Vice President of Acquisitions. The announcement was made by Steven Bersch, SPWA President, to whom Matukewicz will report.

Matukewicz will oversee all acquisitions for the division which is concluding a banner 2011 during which it acquired and/or produced numerous successful films including Soul Surfer, Insidious, Jumping the Broom, Courageous and Columbiana. SPWA will continue to be responsible for providing content for all of SPE's distribution channels, including theatrical, home entertainment, television and digital.

In making the announcement, Bersch stated, "We are thrilled to have Joe join us in this key role. His experience and taste will be vital as we continue to increasingly ramp up our acquisitions activities, and work to bring more great product into Sony."

Before joining SPWA, Matukewicz was SVP and Head of Worldwide Acquisitions for Relativity Media. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions for Paramount Vantage and Director of Acquisitions and Co-Productions for Paramount Classics. Among the many films with which he was involved were Act of Valor, House at the End of the Street, Hustle and Flow (2005 Oscar Winner for Best Original Song) , The Machinist, and An Inconvenient Truth (2006 double-Oscar winner for Best Documentary and Best Original Song).

Matukewicz received a BA from The College of Santa Fe.
