Jeff Blake has served as vice chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) since October 2002.
He also serves as chairman of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing and Distribution, a position he has held since September, 2005. Blake was previously president of worldwide distribution for Columbia Pictures and has headed the studio's film distribution arm since 1992.
Blake directs and oversees the global marketing and distribution of all films from SPE's motion picture production entities — including Columbia Pictures, Screen Gems and Sony Pictures Animation.
Sony Pictures Entertainment is only one of two studios to generate more than $1 billion in domestic box office sales for each of the past eleven years. In 2012, the studio led the industry in market share and set new studio records for box office revenue with $1.768 billion domestically and $4.440 billion worldwide, behind such hits as The Amazing Spider-Man™, Men in Black™ 3, Skyfall™ (the biggest James Bond film of all time), Sony Pictures Animation's Hotel Transylvania, Think Like a Man, 21 Jump Street, The Vow, and many others.
Since 2000, he has been responsible for the launch of 89 #1 films. He has overseen the launch of hit films in every conceivable genre with campaigns supporting such memorable blockbusters as Spider-Man™, Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man 3, The DaVinci Code, Sony Pictures Animation's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Casino Royale, Zero Dark Thirty, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Elysium, The Smurfs®, Just Go With It, Bad Teacher, The Karate Kid, Grown Ups, Salt, Eat Pray Love, The Other Guys, The Social Network, The Green Hornet™, Michael Jackson's THIS IS IT, Hancock, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, District 9, Zombieland, Julie & Julia, Angels & Demons, Quantum of Solace, 21, Superbad, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Hitch, Click, Step Brothers, The Pursuit of Happyness, 50 First Dates, Men in Black™ II, Fun With Dick and Jane, Ghost Rider, Mr. Deeds, Bad Boys II, Anger Management, Panic Room, Something's Gotta Give, XXX, Black Hawk Down, Charlie's Angels™, and many others.
Blake is currently overseeing the launch of several highly anticipated films, including The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield; Captain Phillips, directed by Paul Greengrass and starring Tom Hanks; American Hustle, starring Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, and Jennifer Lawrence, and directed by David O. Russell; The Monuments Men, starring George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville, and Cate Blanchett, which Clooney also directs
Blake became President of Sony Pictures Releasing in August 1994. Prior to that, he was President of Domestic Distribution for Columbia Pictures, a title he had held since joining SPE.
Blake previously worked at Paramount Pictures, where he served as Executive Vice President and General Sales Manager of Domestic Distribution from 1987 to 1992. While there, he contributed to the release of such hit films as Ghost, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop 2, and The Hunt for Red October.
Blake's career began at Paramount in 1974. He subsequently moved to the Los Angeles offices of the Walt Disney Company's theatrical sales unit, Buena Vista Distribution, in 1980, as assistant to the general sales manager. He returned to Paramount as manager of the Western Division in 1981 and was promoted to Vice President of Theatrical Distribution in 1984.
Blake is a member of the California Bar Association, and a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. He serves as a Vice President of the Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation and was honored in 2007 as Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation Pioneer of the Year. He has been honored by publications such as AdAge for leading the studio's innovative and award-winning marketing division. He holds a bachelors' degree in economics from Northwestern University and a law degree from Whittier College of Law.
He lives with his wife, Barbara, and son, Jeffrey in La Canada, Ca. In addition, they have three adult children (Christopher, Heather and James), all of whom live with their families in the Los Angeles area.
