President, Sony Picture Worldwide Acquisitions
Steve Bersch is President, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA). Bersch, who joined the division in 2008, is responsible for overseeing content acquisition and production across a wide range of genres and budgets for the many global distribution platforms at SPE including theatrical, television and home entertainment.
Recent SPWA projects, including acquisition of projects at screenplay stage or finished pictures as well as internal SPWA productions, include: Sparkle, Robot and Frank, The Raid: Redemption, Insidious, Soul Surfer, Jumping The Broom, and The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day. Currently the SPWA slate encompasses key upcoming releases including The Call, Evil Dead, Two Guns (International rights) and TV series House of Cards. Under Bersch's helm, the division has also secured acquisitions deals with several third parties including Film District and CBS Films.
Bersch has held executive positions at five major studios including Twentieth Century Fox, Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros. and MGM/UA. Bersch started his career as an entertainment attorney at Rosenfeld, Meyer and Susman, and then Sidley & Austin, representing producers, writers, directors, performers, distributors and film financiers.
Bersch received a J.D. and a B.S. in Business (marketing concentration) with honors, from the University of California at Berkeley. He is a member of the Executive Branch of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and was previously an Associate Member of the Writers Guild of America, West.
