Sony Pictures & The Environment
Sony Pictures a Greener World
Sony Pictures tells stories that capture peoples' attention and captivate imaginations. Storytelling is a powerful tool that, if wielded appropriately, can influence people to stand up, take notice and act. Picturing a greener world is a reminder of that power of storytelling as a call to action. Sony Pictures a more sustainable world… and is committed to making that picture a reality.
Sony Pictures is playing its part by looking internally. The company seizes environmental opportunities on its studio lot, in its facilities worldwide, on productions, throughout the supply chain, through policies and procurement choices, and in partnership with employees and the community. Work on two new LEED certified office buildings is underway, and the company's ongoing, industry-leading sustainability programs range from composting garbage on the lot to ultra-light DVD packaging for home entertainment products.
Sony Pictures not only envisions a greener world, it is dedicated to help create it.
High Standards
In 2001, Sony Pictures Entertainment was certified ISO14000, which is the environmental management standard defined by the International Organization for Standardization (
http://www.iso.org/iso/about.htm). The ISO 14000 reinforces sound environmental practices by requiring certified companies to have programs and procedures in place that support recycling efforts, hazardous waste management, and natural resource conservation. Sony Pictures was recertified to the updated ISO14001 standard in 2005 and has been maintained each year since. It remains the first an only studio certified to this standard of environmental practice.
