ATWT & GL Hit the Beach for a Good Cause!

On May 2, 2003, actors from ATWT and GL made their fourth annual trek down to Florida to participate in a celebrity fund raiser for the Marco Island Film Festival.

For three straight days, daytime's brightest stars joined in a host of activities ranging from a staged reading of Vendler's Television Playhouse to a fan-filled Brunch in Springfield.

"The Brunch in Springfield is always a little overwhelming at first," confessed Aubrey Dollar (Marina, GL). "Being in New York, you don't usually get people coming up to you. So, there's an adjustment period to realize that people are looking at you. It kind of makes me embarrassed. But it's fun, because everyone who's there is there because they love the show and they love you. It's really nice."

For the actors who didn't mind breaking a sweat, there was also to a celebrity golf tournament.

Nancy St. Alban (Michelle, GL) with husband, Chris.

"I'm a golfer. It's fun to golf," gushed Nancy St. Alban (Michelle). "Although I didn't golf this year. I haven't golfed since I got pregnant, so I was little nervous about using those muscles I haven't used in a while. But my husband played, and we actually came in second place for our group. I was the cheerleader. It was a great weekend."

Kim Zimmer (Reva, GL) with husband, A.C. Weary, and her parents.

For co-star Kim Zimmer (Reva), "Marco Island is all about seeing my mom and dad. They live outside of Tampa, and they drive down, so we always have a beautiful weekend together."

"My husband and I try to make it a priority that we have some time together alone, without the kids," added Elizabeth Keifer (Blake). "This is our once a year thing that we give to ourselves."

And it was a family affair for several other stars, as well.

Lesli Kay (Molly, ATWT) with son, Jackson.

"(Son) Jackson went with me," explained Lesli Kay (Molly). "I had a 32-pound appendage the whole time.

Beth Ehlers with husband, Matt, and sons Hank and Will.

"For me, it was just an excuse to get my kids down to the beach and the pool," teased Beth Ehlers (Harley; GL). "Coming out of such a brutal winter, that's all I cared about. Getting these kids into the warm weather and getting some vitamin D into them."

But, despite the sun and family-filled fun, none of the stars ever forgot why they were really there -- to support a charity.

"The money we raise from this particular event this year is money that goes to (Marco Island's) youth in film program," Kim Zimmer explained. "Everything I try to do is usually generated by children; those are the charities that I lean toward."

And Lesli Kay concurs, "I'd rather be at an event for the fans, like our fan club luncheon or a charity event, than to be at a place like the EmmysŪ. The fans don't care what we wear, they don't care what our hair looks like, they don't care what make-up we have on. They're just happy to see us because we're in their homes everyday. Giving is what makes me happy. It's actually a selfish thing, if you want to look at it that way. I'm not happy sitting at home and not doing anything to help other people."
