GL Actors Give a Hoot! (And a Bark and Meow and a
.)

On Nov. 7, 2002, Grant Aleksander (Phillip) and his wife, Sherry Ramsey,
hosted the Guiding Light/ Animal Haven Adopt-a-thon at Biscuits
& Bath Doggie in New York City.
Animal Haven
has been finding homes for abandoned cats and dogs throughout the greater
New York area and providing lifetime care to animals that they can't place,
since 1967. It operates a no-kill shelter in Queens, New York, a sanctuary
and rehabilitation center in Delaware County called Animal Haven Acres
and will soon be opening a branch inside Biscuits & Bath Doggie on
New York's East Side. The November event was a combination adoption fair
and fund-raiser for the new facility, with six animals adopted and $2,000
raised. (Which, according to Executive Director Marcello Forte, "is
pretty awesome, considering it was a free event!")
Grant first became involved with the shelter through David Andrew Macdonald
(Edmund). David and his wife, Nikki, adopted a shiatsu named Larry from
Animal Haven when they first moved into their home in New Jersey. Shortly
after, the organization held an event and David brought Grant. Grant and
Sherry have always been very supportive of animal causes and when Grant
learned that Animal Haven would be opening a branch practically right
across the street from the GL studio, he suggested enlisting the cast
into appearing at a fund-raiser.
