Ricky Paull Goldin Hosts The Gabriel Project

Ricky Paull Goldin (Gus), Fiona Hutchison (Gabrielle, OLTL) and friends get ready for a memorable night.

On June 28, 2003, the stars came out to serve drinks, meet the fans and support The Gabriel Project. The event, emceed by Ricky Paull Goldin (Gus) and Beth Ehlers (Harley) was part of an ongoing fundraising campaign to raise money for children of Third World countries in need of live-saving heart surgery. Founded by Mark Melamed, efforts are primarily focused on the children of Tanzania. Said Goldin, "The Gabriel Project, working as a lone wolf, managed to bring nine children over in the last 13 years." Goldin went on to discuss the great strides they’ve made as of late. "With our trip this year, we got the Ministry of Health, the First Lady of Tanzania and the head of the Deborah Heart and Lung Center to all sit at the same table and break bread together. They had never been face-to-face. And they’ve agreed to take 23 children this year alone that need open heart surgery. We will go back again one more time next year to Tanzania and make sure that everything is running smoothly, and then we will find a new pocket of the world where children need this type of attention."

Even with such an important backdrop driving the event, the stars still managed to let their hair down and have a great time, entertaining the fans and each other. Stars from ATWT and GL, as well as cast members from AMC and OLTL, came together to make the night a success. Goldin enthused, "The fundraiser was a success, but I plan to make the next one five times that size. I do want to thank everybody that helped. But next time, we’re going to do even better!" Thanks to Goldin’s tireless efforts, fans had themselves a great way to spend the night mixing with soap stars, all under the banner of a worthy cause.
