Part 2: The Aftermath

Just when things seemed like they couldn’t get any worse for the Lewis family, revelations surrounding Shayne’s accident threaten to tear the family apart. On Monday, Sept. 15, while gathered at the hospital, the shocking truth came out: Shayne’s car was hit by none other than his father, Josh, himself racing to find his son. This discovery threatens to rip apart the Lewis family at the very foundation. In Part 2 of our special, SoapCity spoke to the principal players about the aftermath of the accident, and all the ramifications.

Marty West discussed the concept as to whether Shayne can ever forgive Josh for causing the accident. "I think he loves his father, and I think he’ll eventually forgive him. I don’t think he’ll ever forget about it, though." Robert Newman (Josh) concurred. "Oh, yeah. I want to believe that Shayne will forgive. I think because of the bond they developed, particularly in the years that Reva was away, Josh really raised Shayne from a baby. I think that they’ll work their way through this as well." When asked about Reva’s feelings as to who’s to blame, Kim Zimmer gave us her take. "I think Reva’s feeling is that she’s done everything in her power lately to protect Shayne, by wanting to keep him out of professional baseball, and my way to play Reva at this point through this tragedy is that I have got to believe that Josh is responsible for this." And Aubrey Dollar spoke of Marina’s take on things. "I think she blames Josh, too. But ultimately, they really have to pull together for Shayne’s sake."

Some characters will find it harder to forgive Josh than others. Namely, Josh himself, as Newman explained. "I had a line to Shayne where I said ‘We’re both going to be dealing with this for the rest of our lives.’ And I think that that’s probably true. I think he’ll always, somewhere, deep down inside, blame himself."

Zimmer, on the other hand, doesn’t necessarily believe her character would beat herself up for this, preferring to find meaning from this misfortune. "Reva’s also a believer that things happen for a reason. And I think she’s going to believe that there is a better lesson to be learned from all this. She thinks there will be a light at the end of the tunnel."

Both Newman and Zimmer remained optimistic that Springfield’s super couple could overcome this latest obstacle to happiness. After all, the two of them have seen it all. Newman opined that this is one of the biggest challenges they’ve had to face. "And probably one of the better ones." Zimmer added, "This storyline has presented Reva and Josh with a very real conflict." SoapCity asked if Josh and Reva’s relationship can make it through this. "Of course!" laughed Newman. "Otherwise, they wouldn’t be Josh and Reva." Zimmer felt that many factors will affect the healing process for the two of them. "I think her forgiveness is going to depend on Shayne’s recovery," she laughed. "But I think that eventually she will. I’m hoping she’ll forgive him. I have no idea where this is all going, but I’m real happy with the way this story has played out as far as the tension between Josh and Reva."
