Guiding Light's Lindsey McKeon (Marah)

A round-up of answers to the usual questions from one of Guiding Light's newest cast members.

Act One:
I was born in New Jersey, but I grew up in L.A. When I was really little, like four, you can see videos of my mom and step-dad filming around the house, and I'm jumping up, trying to get in front of the camera. One time, my parents didn't even notice this when they were shooting their stuff, but you can see a shot of me at the top of the stairs, pretending to put a knife in my chest and falling dramatically to the floor. And I have other tapes of me sitting with my mom and her pretending to interview me, and me saying in my Robin Leach voice, "Hello, welcome to the Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, and I'm very rich and very famous and this is my mansion!" I was probably about five and a half or six for that one.

Going Pro:
My mom was an actress a while ago. Now, she and her best friend do a commercial acting workshop once a week in Santa Monica. But, when I was about ten years old, I kept asking my mom, "Please, can I get with your commercial agent? Can I go out on commercial auditions?" And she told me, "No, it's a bad business. I don't want you in this business." But eventually she gave in, and I started doing commercials. Then, one day, when I was thirteen, my mom told me, "You're spending way too much time on the phone. We need to have an extracurricular activity for you." So we were thinking about fencing, and then she heard about this acting class. So she picked me up from school one day, and she said, "Guess where you're going?" "Where?" "To an acting class?" And I'm like, "Okay." After the class was over, my mom asked me, "How did it go?" And I said, "Mom, it was great. Oh, my God, I have never felt so free and uninhibited in my whole life." The whole acting thing just progressed from there. My acting coach wanted to become my manager, and so I kept doing commercials, and then my first professional (non-commercial) acting job was Saved by the Bell.

Ringing the Bell:
I did that for three years. It was an amazing experience for me, and I'm so appreciative that I got that right off the bat. It was wonderful. I was the youngest person on that show for most of the time, until Ashley (Lyn Cafagna -- ex-Kimberly, B&B) came on. All the other kids were older than me. Plus, when you're on a set, only the minority of the people, like seven, eight people are young. The other people that you're working with are all adults. The production, the camera crew, everybody is an adult. So I'm used to hanging out with older people. Being an only child, I've hung out with adults a lot of my life. I couldn't really deal and cope with people my age. That's why high school was difficult for me. There is so much petty crap that goes on in school. I wasn't up for it, I wasn't into it and I just was so over it at an early age.

Marah: Take Five:
I've never taken over a role before, so taking over as Marah was a little weird. The other person, Laura (Bell Bundy), had a history with everybody there, and she had a history with her character. I didn't have a history with any of the characters, but right off the bat I had to come in and act like I had those relationships already and had those feelings. It was good because it pulled a lot from me, being an actress. It pulled a lot of emotion from me. I'm happy with the work I've been doing, I'm happy that it's pulled so much out of me. That's why I love acting. With acting, I can bring out the angry parts of me, I can bring out the sad parts. I can bring out the happy, joyous parts. I've had a lot of life experiences, and I can pull through that. Relationships that I've been through. Things that I've been through with parents, with friends, just life-things that you go through every day.

Hurry Up and Act!:
Guiding Light is a taped show. Saved by the Bell was taped, too, but on Saved by the Bell we had the whole week to rehearse. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, we rehearsed. Thursday, we blocked everything with the camera, and Friday was the day we taped everything. And now I have to do a whole show -- maybe two shows -- in a day. I think it's great. We only do one take usually, and you really have to nail it. You can't fool around. You have to figure out what you want and do exactly that. It's great. Some days I work one day a week, some days I work three. It's a wonderful job. I've bonded with a lot of people really well. Everyone has been wonderful with me and really supportive and not like hateful or cruel at all, which they could have been.

All About Lindsey:
I'm upfront about who I am, I don't hide who I am. I'm fun. I have an attitude. I have an edge to me. I can be a bitch, sometimes. I think that's a good thing. I'm really loving. I can be mature at times, but there is still a lot of child in me. Jessica (Jimenez; Catalina) pulls out the child in me so much. I don't think I've ever had anybody make me so child-like, other than her. It feels so great to be a little kid again. She does little cute things, and I just do them back. It's so great. I don't know how it happens or why it happens. She's wonderful.
