Grant Aleksander rejoined the cast of GUIDING LIGHT in April 1996 in the role of Phillip Spaulding, which he had previously portrayed with great popularity from December 1982 to December 1984 and from December 1986 to February 1991. The role earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 1998. In addition, Aleksander is one half of Soap Opera Digest's 1998 award-winning "Best New Couple," along with Beth Ehlers, who plays his wife, Harley.
Also familiar to daytime audiences as Alec McIntyre on All My Children (1993-95), Aleksander was introduced to acting in prep school, where a supportive drama teacher, John Van Meter, encouraged him to try out for a school production. He then attended Washington and Lee University in Virginia, and became heavily involved in the theater program. He appeared in such diverse plays as The Crucible, The Owl and the Pussycat and The Glass Menagerie, and played the title roles in both Manson and Hamlet. He has also been seen on stage in Baltimore in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
Aleksander next went to New York City to pursue his professional acting career, and attended classes at New York University and the Circle in the Square School. He worked for a year as a model before he began to land acting jobs.
Aleksander has spent time in Los Angeles, where he has had guest roles on such nighttime series as Hardcastle and McCormick, Who's the Boss? and The Fall Guy. He was also featured in the television film Dark Mansions and had a short-term role on the daytime drama Capitol. He was seen in the afternoon special A Very Delicate Matter prior to joining the CBS daytime drama GUIDING LIGHT.
Aleksander and his wife, lawyer Sherry Ramsey, were married on September 19, 1987. Known for taking in stray or unwanted pets, they live in New Jersey with an assortment of cats and dogs. They spend much of their free time working for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). |
