In 1976, after only three months in New York City, she was cast as Holly on the long-running CBS daytime drama, GUIDING LIGHT, which she played until 1981. Afterwards, Garrett appeared on television as E.J. Ryan on Ryan's Hope and in numerous commercials. She rejoined GUIDING LIGHT in 1985.
Garrett has worked extensively in regional theatre, including Les Liaisons Dangereuses at Virginia Stage. She appeared in As You Like It and Quartermaine's Terms at the Walnut Street Theatre (Philadelphia) and has crossed the country to work with American playwrights on new plays. They include Beastly Beatitudes of Balthazar B. by J.P. Donleavy; Mrs. California by Doris Baisley; Last Looks by Grace McKeaney; and Self Defense by Joe Cacaci. Prior to 1981, she appeared in numerous repertory and stock productions, including Hedda Gabler, The Birthday Party, The Glass Menagerie and The Royal Family.
Garrett studied at Germany's Universitat Munchen and Temple and Villanova Universities. In New York City, she studied acting with Michael Howard and Uta Hagen.
