Billy was born and raised in Tulsa, went to college and played
one year of pro football. His first wife (and mother of Mindy) died.
He was then married to Reva Shayne for eight years. |

Billy comes to Springfield to help his brother, Josh, Ross Marler
and Amanda Spaulding keep their company, Los Tres Amigos, afloat.

Billy weds Vanessa Chamberlain. |

Harlan Billy Lewis III is born.
Lewis Oil is taken over by Kyle Sampson, who claims to be HB's
illegitimate son. Billy catches Kyle and Reva together and ends
up in a temporary coma after a fight with Kyle. Later, severely
depressed over losing Lewis Oil, Billy begins drinking & gambling,
causing Vanessa to separate from him.
Billy discovers that Sally Gleason is his real mother and that
he and Kyle Sampson are half- brothers.
Billy comes under the influence of David Preston, who hypnotizes
him to try and kill Kyle. Preston is shot instead and Billy stands
trial for his murder. He is cleared due to the hypnosis.

Vanessa divorces him because of his drinking and gambling and because
of his jealousy towards Ross Marler. |

Billy works for Lewis Oil in Venezuela. In 1989, he returns to Springfield
to attend Josh & Reva's wedding. |

Reunited with Vanessa, Billy leaves her waiting at the altar while

he remarries Vanessa. They begin raising Peter together. When Billy
begins drinking again, he almost kills Roger for destroying his family
business and he is sent to jail for five years. Vanessa divorces him.

Vanessa 'dies' in a car crash. Billy is released from prison to
a half-way house outside of Springfield and reunites with his son,
Bill. |

Josh and Billy rush to the bedside of their ailing father, H.B.,
in Europe. Back in Springfield, he works at the Wheels and Meals Diner
as part of his probation but later resumes his place at Lewis Oil.
Billy falls for his executive assistant, Cassie Layne, and they begin
to date but when he discovers Cassie's in love with Hart Jessup, they
part amicably. Billy is reunited with a healthy Vanessa, who had faked
her death to spare her family the pain of watching her die from a
debilitating disease. At H.B.'s memorial, Billy is also reunited with
Trish, and Mindy for the first time since his prison release. |

Billy and Josh lose control of Lewis Oil to the Spauldings. They
start a new company, Lewis Construction. |

Billy helps Vanessa come forward and confess to her role in Ben
Warren's murder. He pursues Holly Lindsey-Reade.

Billy is briefly thrown in jail in Florida, missing Josh's wedding
to Olivia Spencer. When he returns to Springfield, he notices he has
a rival for Holly's affections: Buzz Cooper. |
