| 1983 |
Lillian's daughter Beth is hospitalized after a bad
fall. In reality, Beth has been beaten by her abusive father, Bradley.
She does not tell Lillian about this and little does she know that
Lillian suffers similar abuse. |
| 1985 |
Lillian believes she accidentally killed Charlotte
(a Cedar's nurse) by administering the wrong medication. Later, it
is discovered that Charlotte was struck with a blunt object and that
Charlotte's sister, Alicia Rhomer, is the real killer. |
| 1986 |
Lillian is devastated when she learns Beth is "dead."
Her sister, Calla, confides to Lillian that her ex-husband infected
her with a venereal disease. |
| 1988 |
Lillian does not believe Bradley when he tells her
and Phillip that Beth hit him in the head with a shovel. |
| 1992 |
Lillian finds a lump in her breast that turns out
to be malignant. She only tells Ed Bauer. Ed helps her through this
period and after the successful surgery, Lillian realizes that she
is attracted to Ed. During a citywide blackout, Ed and Lillian are
trapped in the Towers parking lot and Ed tells her that he feels the
same about her--- they share a tender kiss. Lillian finds another
lump in her breast and does not tell Ed about it, but he finds out
anyway and is supportive of Lillian. When they later find out that
the lump is benign, Lillian impulsively kisses Ed and things turn
passionate. Ed will not continue the affair because he does not want
to divorce Maureen. A disappointed Lillian begins making plans to
leave town and writes Ed a farewell letter. Ed convinces Lillian to
stay in Springfield and agree to remain friends. Unfortunately, Ed's
wife, Maureen, finds the letter, and upset, crashes her car and dies
soon after. Lillian is wracked by guilt. |
| 1998 |
Lillian helps Beth and granddaughter Lizzie Spaulding
cope after Lizzie kills Beth's abusive boyfriend, Carl Stephens. |
| 2000 |
Lillian provides love and support to her family when
Lizzie is diagnosed with leukemia. She also encourages Beth to accept
the love of Jim Lemay. |
| 2001 |
Following Jim's death, Lillian keeps an eye on Beth
and is wary of her daughter's attraction to Prince Edmund Winslow.

| 2002 |
Lillian's devastation over her daughter's apparent
death subsides when "Beth" miraculously reappears in Springfield.
She cares for "Beth" when she falls sick. Lillian learns
that Beth is really Lorelei and still believes that this woman is
her daughter because they sang a nursery song that only Beth would
know. Lillian is proved right when Lorelei proves to be Beth, after
all. Lillian's ex-lover, Ed, returns to town. |
