| Backstory: |
A young Alexandra fell in love with Eric Luvonaczek, a struggling
musician. They had a son: Brandon. Alexandra's father, Brandon Spaulding,
did not approve of this union and paid off Eric to leave town with
their son. Alexandra never forgave Brandon, or her brother Alan, who
helped his father send her son away. Alexandra found her son, now
called Lujack, several years later when she returned from Springfield
from Andora (where she was married to the Baron Leo Von Halkein).
This reunion was short lived, however, for Lujack was killed in an
explosion related to the international crime ring Infinity.
(Alex was unaware that she actually gave birth to twins. We'll meet
Nick later. ) |
| Chronology: |
|
| 1984 |
Alex arrives in Springfield, playing the doting sister, but still
harboring resentment for Alan's role in taking her baby away from
her. Alex befriends Ross and enlists his help in finding her son and
to exact her revenge against Alan. (Alex learns that Lujack is a kindhearted
young man, who's led a tough life. Initially Lujack resents her wealth,
but in time they grow closer.) Eventually, she does, revealing to
Alan's son Phillip that Alan was responsible for breaking up Phillip
and Beth. Ross also helps her gain control of Spaulding, with Ross
as President. Ross and Alex become romantically involved. Ross dumps
her when her quest for power leads her to try to oust Henry and Vanessa
from the company. Alex replaces Ross with Warren, and they soon become
engaged. Alex is stung when she discovers that Warren is having an
affair with her stepdaughter, India, who recently blackmailed Phillip
into marrying her. Alex uses Warren to free Phillip from India's trap.
Later in the year, Alex is stunned to learn that her father, Brandon,
is still alive and living in Barbados with the love of his life, Sharina.
Brandon married Penelope, Lana and Alex's mother, instead of Sharina,
because of the color and social barriers of the time. They continue
their relationship in secret for years and after his "death,"
move to Barbados where they raise a daughter of their own, Victoria.
Alex meets Victoria and offers her share of the Spaulding wealth.
Victoria declines the wealth, but welcomes her sister. |
| 1985 |
Helps Lujack start a music career and encourages him in his marriage
plans to Beth. Sadly, Lujack is killed in a boat explosion rescuing
Beth from a vicious criminal named Largo. Alex is devastated. |
| 1986 |
A charming young magician named Simon poses as Brandon Spaulding's
illegitimate son. Alex gifts him a third of the company. In truth,
Simon is revealed to be Eric Luvonaczek's illegitimate son by another
woman. In time, she forgives Simon. Alan and India join forces to
take over Spaulding. Grieves with Phillip when Beth is kidnapped and
presumed dead. |
| 1987 |
Alex begins a romance with HB Lewis. Phillip and Alex join forces
and agree to a merger with Sampson Enterprises to force Alan out.
HB and Alex get engaged, but Alex keeps a secret that threatens their
happiness (she knew that Alan forged Marah's paternity test in order
to keep Reva and HB's son Josh apart). |
| 1988 |
Alex comes clean about the paternity test, and HB does not call
off their engagement. But when HB learns that Alan was not just ousted
by the merger, he was bankrupted, HB calls it quits with Alex. (Alex
was innocent -- this was Phillip's plan.) Also this year, Alan-Michael
shocks the family by announcing his engagement to Harley Cooper; the
family is outraged at first, but grows to accept and love her. |
| 1989 |
Alex races to Venezuela with Fletcher, Ed and Rusty to rescue Alan
from Sonni, Josh's mentally disturbed ex, and her cohort Will Jeffries.
They succeed, but Alex and Fletcher's plane crashes. Stranded, their
friendship turns to love, but the presence of a mystery man named
Adam changes all that. "Adam" is actually Roger Thorpe.
He charms Alex after convincing her that Fletcher is dead (he actually
sent Fletcher back home believing the same about Alex). When Alex
returns to Springfield, she brings Adam with her and he reveals his
true identity at Phillip's marriage to Blake. Roger rescues Blake
from Alan, who planned on killing Blake. Alan was sent away to prison,
and Alex went on a cruise to recoup but not before hiring Roger to
work at Spaulding. |
| 1990 |
Alex marries Roger, but soon begins to see that he is interested
more in her company than her. She sets up a weekend in Acapulco for
Holly and Roger in hopes of catching him at adultery (not knowing
he already was cheating with Mindy Lewis). But the former flames instead
face their turbulent past, Roger's rape of Holly. When Roger learns
of Alex's deceit, he wants out of the marriage, but Alex refuses,
fearing she might lose Spaulding. |
| 1991 |
Dangles the presidency of Spaulding before Alan-Michael -- insisting
that he break things off with Blake or he'll never be president.
Alan-Michael continues to be seduced by Blake as the waiting game
proves too long for him, leading Alex to name Vanessa instead. Learns
that Roger is having an affair with Mindy Lewis, who was carrying
Roger's child (Mindy miscarried). Roger is also embezzling from
her company. She publicly humiliates Roger at the Country club,
divorces him and recoups her family's losses. When Alex publicly
humiliates Mindy, Fletcher becomes fed up with her.
Later, when Alex spots Nick Mchenry, the spitting image of Lujack,
Alex thinks hes a con man, but finally realizes that she must
have had twins. Nick denies her assertion, and plans on heading
back to New York with Mindy Lewis. Alex threatens Mindy to break
it off with Nick or she'll tell him about the affair with Roger.
Alex also arranges for Nick to be fired from his job in New York.
Nick returns to town and resumes his relationships with Mindy and
wants nothing to do with Alex, due to her deceptions.
|
| 1992 |
After Frank tracks down Eric for her, she confronts Eric, who
reveals that he the other child up for adoption.
Nick doesn't believe Alex at first. (Eric recants the confession
he made to Alex, and Mindy falsifies evidence that would prove his
paternity.) A desperate Alex enlists Roger's help to break up Mindy
and Nick. Despite Roger's machinations, bringing Eve Guthrie --
a long-lost love back from war-torn Cambrai, Nick and Mindy continue
their romance. But DNA tests prove the truth and achieve what Alex
couldn't - Mindy and Nick break up. (Alex confronts Mindy
on the day of her wedding to Nick, Mindy runs away, leaving a note
confirming the truth. Unfortunately for Alex, Nick still wants nothing
more to do with her.)
|
| 1993 |
At Roger's prompting, Jenna Bradshaw takes over Spaulding Enterprises,
believing that her father was ripped off years before by Brandon Spaulding.
Alex is away at the time, her ship is wrecked and Alex is missing.
Fletcher tracks her down in Singapore. When she returns, she is stunned
to find Jenna and Roger in her bed -- Jenna has taken over the mansion.
Alex vows revenge. When Jenna learns the truth from Buzz, Jenna's
father lost the rights to his invention in a poker game, Jenna gives
Alex back her company. Alex is thrilled when Nick decides to change
his name to Spaulding, but is crushed when Nick says he's marrying
Mindy. At a country club party, Roger disappears, circumstantial evidence
points to Alex. (Later, it turns out that Billy Lewis shot Roger.)
|
| 1994 |
Fletcher whisks Alex away to avoid Nick and Mindy's wedding but
Alex gets back just in time to attempt to stop it. Vanessa kicks her
out and Nick and Mindy wed. Aware that Alan is soon to be released
from prison, Alex wants Alan-Michael on her side. Alex finally decides
to give Alan-Michael the presidency but he turns it down, preoccupied
with his love life. He later changes his mind, but so does Alex when
she learns he was working with Jenna. Alan indeed attempts to take
over the company, at first pretending to be a Japanese businessman
who aligns himself with Roger Thorpe. Alex tries to get Nick to run
Spaulding, even coercing him to sabotage Lewis Oil so Vanessa would
back out of Spaulding in order to save Lewis. Mindy, a Lewis herself,
leaves Nick. Alex urges Nick to quit Spaulding and save his marriage.
Alan allows Alex to think he was "dying and she works to
give him control of the company. As payback for Roger, Alex lures
Roger into her bed for Holly's benefit. Roger loses Holly again, the
ultimate punishment. |
| 1995 |
Alex is stunned when Alan gives his shares of the company to Amanda...
Alan finally secures the presidency of Spaulding for Alan-Michael,
and Alex agrees, wanting a truce with her brother. |
| 1996 |
Alexandra's supportive when Nick marries Susan, a girl with HIV,
and moves to Europe. She also supports Alan-Michael and his new love,
Lucy Cooper, as she's terrorized by a former Spaulding employee. Alex
clashes with Amanda, forcing her to turn down a vice presidency at
Spaulding. |
| 1997 |
Alan's livid when he learns that Alex knew the truth about Amanda's
paternity. Alan believed Amanda was his daughter, but in fact she
is his sister. (Father Brandon had an affair with Amanda's mother,
too.) When Alan refuses to forgive her (this is the groveling at his
feet scene), Alexandra leaves town to see son Nick in Europe. |
| 1998 |
Alexandra returns -- she chastises Alan for his relationship with
Annie Dutton, who's been posing as Teri Demarco in yet another desperate
ploy to connect with Josh Lewis. When Alan takes the rap for drugging
Josh (really Annie's doing), in a move to protect Alan, she reveals
to Ben (Alan's lawyer) that Alan's protecting Annie. Alexandra again
leaves town. |
