Biological mother Jackie Marler gave birth to Phillip, secretly
gave him up for adoption after she found out her husband, Justin,
was cheating on her. Alan switched baby Phillip for his and wife Elizabeth's
stillborn baby. |

| 1982 |
Phillip discovers the truth about his parentage.
While still involved with Mindy Lewis, Phillip falls in love with
Beth Raines, who is dating his best friend, Rick Bauer. He discovers
that Beth has been abused by her stepfather, Bradley.

| 1983 |
Phillip confesses his love to Beth. Later, he is rejected by her
after she is raped by her stepfather. They run away to New York where
they vow their love and perform their own marriage ceremony. |
| 1984 |
Phillip plans to marry Beth, but instead, he asks Mindy to be his
wife after he learns that she is carrying his child. Beth is heartbroken.
India charms Phillip. |
| 1985 |
Philip and India carry on an affair and eventually marry. |
| 1986 |
Phillip requests a divorce from India after catching her locked
in the arms of another man. |
| 1987 |
Phillip takes a job working for Spaulding Enterprises
in hopes of ruining his father, Alan. He asks his aunt Alex to help
him. |
| 1988 |
Phillip announces to Alan that he is out of Spaulding Enterprises.
He gets drunk and unknowingly sleeps with his best friend, Rick's
girlfriend, Meredith. He tries unsuccessfully to break up Harley and
Alan-Michael's relationship and helps refine Harley into a Spaulding
woman. |

Phillip seizes control of Spaulding, thinking Alex is dead.
The truth is revealed that Phillip is the father of Meredith's
baby and he gets into a brawl with Rick. Phillip becomes engaged
to Blake and later, becomes obsessed with finding his lost love,
Beth. With the help of Rick, he locates Beth.

Phillip ends his relationship with Blake and asks Beth to marry
him. Arrested for Neil Everest's murder, he stages his own death to
prove his innocence. He returns to Springfield only to hear that Rick
and Beth are married. He is there when Beth gives birth to Lizzie.
They leave town for Arizona. |
| 1996 |
Phillip returns to Springfield to find out who set him for Neil's
murder. |
| 1997 |
Phillip and Harley develop a love/hate relationship while Phillip
deals with Jenna Cooper's and Jeffrey Morgan's problems. Phillip discovers
Jeffrey is trying to steal from him. |
| 1998 |
Phillip and Harley's relationship blossoms even more so as Beth
tries to win Phillip back. Lizzie goes through turmoil after it is
discovered that she killed Beth's ex-boyfriend, Carl Stephens. Phillip
moves in with Beth much to Harley's chagrin but eventually, he and
Harley marry. |
| 1999 |
Phillip tries to protect Lizzie from Annie Dutton and is equally
protective of Harley, who becomes attached to Susan, the daughter
she gave up for adoption when she was a teenager. Harley gives birth
to Alan Spaulding II, named after Alan, who suffers a heart attack.
During a flight around San Cristobel, the plane that Phillip, Beth,
and her fiancé, Jim Lemay, is on, crashes. While Jim goes
for help, Beth and Phillip are in an avalanche and they make love,
thinking they are going to die, accidentally videotaping the encounter.
Post-rescue, neither is aware that Prince Edmund Winslow has pocketed
the videotape. A guilt-laden Phillip returns to life with Harley,
vowing to spend less time working, and more time with his family.

| 2000 |
Beth learns that she's pregnant and convinces a reluctant Phillip
to let her pretend that the baby is Jim's. Beth and Phillip are devastated
when they learn that Lizzie has leukemia. Phillip reveals the truth
about the baby when Jim refuses to allow labor to be induced so that
the baby can serve as a donor for Lizzie. The transplant is a success
and Lizzie survives, but Harley leaves Phillip. |
| 2001 |
Phillip tries to reconcile with Harley to no avail. One drunken
evening, she has a one-night stand with Rick, resulting in pregnancy.
Although they try to find the right moment to inform Phillip of
the baby, he learns about it at the hands of the manipulative Edmund.
Phillip's friendship with Rick suffers tremendously as a result
of what Phillip sees as betrayal.
Phillip tries to get Beth away from her new husband, Edmund. In
the process, they become closer but she is presumed dead in a flash
flood in Mexico, where she is trying to get a divorce from Edmund.
Much to Phillip's shock, Beth returns to Springfield a short time
later although he is unaware that the woman is really Lorelei Hill,
a Beth look-alike in cahoots with Edmund to get the Spaulding money.

| 2002 |
Although Phillip learns that Lorelei is a Beth look-alike, he discovers
that Lorelei and Beth have the same fingerprints. He tracks her and
Edmund at Beth's silver mine and discovers that Lorelei is Beth. The
two get trapped in the mine but eventually make it out alive. Phillip
and Beth succumb to their attraction and reconcile. |
