Soap Stars Ring in the New Year

Ah, New Year's Day... what better time to start fresh, wipe the slate clean and come up with some plans and goals for the days ahead. We spoke with stars from As the World Turns and Guiding Light to find out what their New Year's resolutions were.

Martha Byrne (Lily/Rose, ATWT): I never make a New Year's Resolution. If I can't do it during the year, then why bother doing it at the end of the year? I figure it's a yearlong struggle with keeping in shape, keeping your head clear.

Jerry verDorn (Ross, GL): I think my New Year's resolution is to keep on doing what I'm doing, enjoying moment by moment, because as anyone who's had kids, and their kids grow up, you find out what your parents told you, how quickly time goes by. You should appreciate every moment, and that's what I'm in the process of doing.

Crystal Chappell (Olivia, GL): I would love to be back in yoga condition pretty early on in the year. I probably really won't be able to get started until after the New Year. That's it. I really just want to be strong again.

Deborah Zoe (Eden, GL): Just to live fuller. To really get everything out of my life that I possibly can. 'Cause you never know. To tell people that I love them. To express myself to all the people that I love. Try to be a better person.

Gavin Houston (Remy, GL): I light a candle, I write down everything I didn't like about the past year. I crumple it up and burn it and blow out the candle. Then I light a new candle and write everything I want for the year to come. And I keep that until next year. Always for this year to be better than the last year.

Amanda Serkasevich (Darcy, GL): I don't really do resolutions. I kind of live my life... things are best in moderation. I reflect back on things that I'm not so proud of, or things that I could improve on, then I try to apply that into the year coming. I could probably save more money. I think that's my biggest goal, to be more financial minded. Just be kind to others, cherish the friendships and the loved ones. My father had a miracle recovery from a lung cancer this year, so I guess one of my resolutions was to consciously keep him aware of how much he means to me. And everyone in my family. It's important.

Crystal Hunt (Lizzie, GL): Work out! Getting from my apartment two floors down to my gym in the apartment building is the hardest thing in the world. And I know it sounds crazy, but it is! My bed is so comfortable, my television is so alluring! I gotta do it! I gotta get in shape.

Stephanie Gatschet (Tammy, GL): I think I want to lower my sugar intake on my daily basis, which has nothing to do with wanting to diet or lose weight or any of that. But I think I can safely say I eat nothing but sugar, and it's getting to be a little unhealthy and I'm worried for my health. A little less sugar. 40 ounces of soda every day by 10AM could change. Should change. Drink more water, eat less sugar. Bailey Chase (Chris, ATWT): Lower my handicap.
