Greening the Office - Idea to Action Grants and Certification
Sony Pictures enables interested employees to help generate ideas on how to make our operations greener, providing seed project funding through Idea to Action grants, hosting sustainability idea labs for business units, and promoting a Green Office Certification program for individual employees. Together we help make Sony Pictures a Greener World a reality.
Idea to Action: This grant is to empower employees to take action on their own green idea with access to a limited amount of funding. Extra consideration is given to ideas that demonstrate a double bottom line of cost saving and increased sustainablility. Since it's inception, 17 Grants have been awarded in the United States (California, Florida and New York), Japan and Spain by employees across multiple divisions. Funds have provided reusables in office kitchens, retrofitted lighting controls for energy savings, built workplace community gardens, provided office composting equipment and launched at-work bike share programs.
Green Office Certification: This program was started by the employee-based Greener World Group in an effort to share best office practices with their colleagues and create a more sustainable workplace. This voluntary program began with Greener World Group members going building-by-building to certify offices according to an employee-developed checklist, and has now become widely available for any employee to self-certify through our online platform Practically Green. The Green Office Certification checklist includes turning off lights, powering down electronics, printing double-sided or saving to PDF, using reusable bottles and dishware, and importantly, removing a desk-side trash can which avoids the waste of plastic liners. Once approved, employees receive recognition through a Green Office Certification decal to display on their nameplate.
