Sony Corporation & The Environment

Sony Pictures' efforts are part of Sony Corporation's ongoing commitment to green business practices throughout all aspects of the company, including the development of new technologies, programs to recycle electronics and other materials, green building projects, greener production techniques, and efforts to inform and educate the public through storytelling and entertainment approaches.

The Sony Group recently launched “The Road to Zero.” The Road to Zero is Sony’s global environmental plan, striving to achieve a zero environmental footprint throughout the life cycle of its products and business activities by 2050. Sony seeks this goal not only at plants and offices but also throughout product lifecycles. As one of the first steps towards the goal of a zero environmental footprint, Sony has established the medium target (for 2015) of reducing CO2 emissions by 30% at sites and product power consumption, from 2000 levels.

Sony is also making great strides in the energy efficiency of its products, having recently launched a new eco line of BRAVIA televisions that are 40% more energy efficient than previous models. At the same time, Sony is committed to taking back end-of-life consumer electronics products for proper recycling. Through the Sony Take Back Recycling Program, consumers can recycle any Sony-branded consumer electronics product for no fee. The long-term goal of Sony Electronics' US recycling programs is to recycle one pound of old consumer electronics equipment for every pound of new Sony product sold.
