FAQ

I am really looking forward to the Rita Hayworth DVD box set.
Will there be a follow-up set, with more of her titles?
Rita Hayworth was one of the most important and beloved stars at Columbia Pictures in the 1940’s. Many of her films have been released on DVD, and while compiling this new set with the Film Foundation, it was our goal to highlight both best known films, (Gilda and Cover Girl), while also featuring films that have never been released on DVD. Many of the films Rita Hayworth starred in have been available on DVD previously, so we determined those titles were less of a priority for this set.
Titles in the Bad Girls of Film Noir Set have been announced,
but they don’t include some of the best known classic titles
of the genre. Why not?
The intention of this set was to highlight some of the exceptional actresses from other well-known Noir films, including Lizabeth Scott (Dead Reckoning), Gloria Grahame (Human Desire), while also spotlighting some of their lesser-known films made at Columbia. As you might know, we just released Columbia Film Noir Classics 1, and we have a number of Film Noir sets in the works, featuring all the classic Noir films of the library, but this set is a little different and, we think, unique to the market. In working to preserve the library of Columbia films, we are constantly encountering films that impress us, despite being almost unknown to the wider world, because they've never been released on video. We want to share the excitement of these discoveries with film noir fans; we also love the concept of a set of films that focus on the women of noir. Let's face it, the femme fatale is one of the juiciest roles for women in this period, and these B-pictures really allowed actresses to explore their dark side.
Why are some titles announced, and then delayed for release?
The fans are waiting!!
We here at Sony Pictures are as excited as any fans to see the DVD sets available to the public. It’s exciting to get new DVDs into the market and see the fan’s response. From time to time, delays are inevitable in order to provide the best quality picture and sound, especially for catalog releases. Often, we are still working on the added value content--the commentaries and interviews that we feel make a DVD release really special. Getting the interviews with directors, stars, or other interesting people takes time. We would rather get the DVDs to you with the maximum quality (even if a little later than we originally announce) than have you be disappointed. We hope you continue to be pleased with the Columbia catalog releases from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and that the extra effort shows in the final product.
