Sony Pictures Imageworks
Carey Villegas, visual effects supervisor at Sony Pictures Imageworks, most recently completed work on Hancock as an additional visual effects supervisor.
Prior to Hancock, Villegas served as the visual effects plate supervisor for Eagle Eye, I Am Legend and the international phenomenon Spider-Man™ 3.
Villegas has an extensive list of credits that includes Superman Returns (which received an Academy Award® nomination for Best Achievement in Visual Effects), The Forgotten, Bewitched, Little Black Book, Bad Boys II (which was nominated for a Visual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Motion Picture), Hollywood Homicide, I Spy and America’s Sweethearts. He also was co-visual effects supervisor on Robert Zemeckis’ Cast Away, the Tom Hanks vehicle that was recognized with two Academy Award® nominations, and associate visual effects supervisor on What Lies Beneath.

During his tenure at Imageworks, Villegas has been instrumental in the creative design and development of the digital production company’s proprietary in-house compositing software, Bonsai.
Before joining Imageworks in 1999, Villegas was at Digital Domain. His credits there include co-compositing supervisor on James Cameron's Titanic and digital compositing supervisor on What Dreams May Come, both of which won Academy Awards® for Best Visual Effects. He also worked on such films as Fight Club, Rules Of Engagement, Supernova, Armageddon, The Fifth Element, Sgt. Bilko, Chain Reaction, Michael Collins, Dante’s Peak, and the Universal Studios theme park attraction, Terminator 2 3-D: Battle Across Time.
Villegas began his career working as a digital effects artist at Editel/Chicago where he created animation, graphics and visual effects for national commercials and broadcast promotions. Among his clients were notable advertising agencies like Leo Burnett, DDB Needham and Hal Riney.
Villegas holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Communications from the University of St. Francis.
