George Joblove, senior vice president and chief technology officer at Sony Pictures Imageworks, is responsible for guiding the development and use of digital-imaging technology, and overseeing all aspects of the technical infrastructure that supports the facility’s productions. Since Joblove joined Imageworks in 1998, the company has created visual effects and animation for many films, including I Am Legend, Beowulf, the Spider-Man trilogy, The Polar Express, Stuart Little 1 and 2 and the Sony Pictures Animation movies Surf's Up and Open Season. Joblove also participates in a number of other technology initiatives at Sony Pictures Entertainment, including the application of advanced digital technologies to various facets of motion-picture production, postproduction and distribution.

Joblove has been directly involved in digital imaging for the entertainment industry since 1978. He played a key role in the creation of digital visual effects for such groundbreaking films as The Abyss and Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Joblove holds a Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, in computer science, and a Master of Science in computer graphics, both from Cornell University. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Academy Science and Technology Council, the Visual Effects Society, and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, and an associate member of the American Society of Cinematographers. He was honored in 1994 with a Scientific and Engineering Academy Award for his work on digital motion picture manipulation.
