 | Senior VFX Producer
Sony Pictures Imageworks
Michelle Murdocca joined Sony Pictures Imageworks in 1998 to work as the senior visual effects producer on “Stuart Little." Along with director Rob Minkoff, Murdocca's team successfully created the Academy Award® nominated digital animation for the title character of Stuart. Most recently she was the associate producer and senior visual effects producer on the sequel, “Stuart Little 2," which not only reprises the character of Stuart, but also includes two new photoreal characters, Margalo and Falcon.

“In ‘Stuart 2' we added the challenge of creating two CG bird characters that must be photoreal. Like Stuart they will interact with the real world and have major roles in the film," said Murdocca. “Digital birds are extremely challenging. We created photoreal feathers that look and act like the real thing. In addition to the technical challenges, we also found that balance of making the birds take on human characteristics, yet still seem like birds. The payoff was worth it," she states. “We've created great action sequences where Stuart flies a biplane and is in a dogfight with a photoreal falcon in and around New York City and Central Park. No one has ever done these kinds of action sequences with multiple photoreal characters. That's the joy of working at Imageworks," Murdocca added. “This facility is one of the few places in the world that can do this kind of quality work."
“Stuart Little 2" was honored with the VES Award (Visual Effects Society) for Best Character Animation in an Animated Film.
Murdocca brings over ten years of visual effects production credits to Imageworks. In 1997 she served as a visual effects producer on Wolfgang Peterson's “Air Force One." In 1996 Murdocca joined VIFX (now Rhythm & Hues) as an executive producer for digital imaging. She produced on “The Relic" and “Switchback" and pre-produced on “Volcano," “Jingle All The Way" and “The Shining" (television). During her tenure at Boss Film Studios, Murdocca was instrumental in building their visual effects department from 10 to 100 artists and in the process received digital effects production manager credits on “Species," “Multiplicity," “Outbreak," “True Lies" and “Drop Zone." She began her career in 1988 at Videocraft Film & Tape in Boston, where she produced commercials, documentaries, industrials and corporate videos. Michelle Murdocca has recently been named VP of Animation for the newly formed Sony Pictures Animation where she will oversee all aspects of production on animated features.
Murdocca is a graduate of Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island and holds a degree in Psychology.
