Pete Travers
Visual Effects Supervisor
Sony Pictures Imageworks

Pete Travers joined Sony Pictures Imageworks in 1999, serving as effects animation supervisor on the Academy Award® nominated "Hollow Man." Since then, he has contributed to many of the other high profile films within the facility. After completing work as digital effects supervisor on Martin Scorsese's "The Aviator," Travers was promoted to the position of digital effects supervisor. He most recently completed supervising the visual effects in "Zathura," a space adventure directed by "Elf's" Jon Favreau. "Zathura" features over 300 digital effects that enhance the models and miniatures creating a seamless 50s Science Fiction look and feel for the film. Currently, Travers is supervising effects for the upcoming Adam Sandler film, "Click."
In 2003, Travers was digital effects supervisor on "The Haunted Mansion" and "The Matrix Reloaded." Prior to that, he was CG supervisor on the Academy Award nominated "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," "Stuart Little 2" and on the international phenomenon "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."

With a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Travers began his career as a mechanical engineer and, as he puts it, "was left uninterested." When he saw "Jurassic Park," he realized that what he really wanted was a career creating visual effects. He attended the Vancouver Film School for a month and gained a brief orientation in the field, but wanted to improve his craft. His got his break in 1993 when he was hired by Wavefront Technologies and began creating effects as a member of the development team for Dynamation. In 1994, Travers moved to Dream Quest Images where he gained production experience working on "Crimson Tide" and "Moses."

In 1995, Travers moved to Santa Barbara Studios where he was lead technical director on "American Werewolf in Paris," "Spawn," "Cosmic Voyage," "Star Trek: Lifesigns," "Duck Dodgers" and "Star Trek: Cold Fire." In 1997 he formed ShadowCaster, where he helped create the trailer for the Santa Barbara Film Festival, then served as CG Supervisor on "What Dreams May Come" (1998 Academy Award®, Best Visual Effects), as well as "The Tempest." He returned to Santa Barbara Studios in 1998 where he served as CG supervisor on "Supernova," "Star Trek Voyager: Equinox," "How to Survive" and "Little Vampires."
