“50 First Dates” is an unforgettable romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler as Henry, a love-’em-and-leave-’em Lothario, and Drew Barrymore as Lucy, a high school art teacher with a unique neurological disorder that causes her memory to be erased overnight – every night.
Imageworks created almost 100 invisible and funny visual effects for “50 First Dates.” The team seamlessly and discreetly brought the audience from a boat in Hawaii to the Prince William Sound in Alaska by adding extra snow to the mountains, tracking 2d and 3d icebergs into the shots and creating CG breath to make it feel extra cold.
A vomiting walrus, a penguin that gets run over, a pass through an aquarium tank into Henry’s office, the seamless pull out transition from Lucy's bedroom to reveal her Alaskan surroundings; these are only a few of the invisible effects and enhancements that helped tell the story of this hilarious romance.
