The New York Times called the plane crash in "Cast Away" the scariest and most believable plane crash ever filmed.
Even more believable than the crash were the rest of the 350 effects shots in the film that escaped notice-invisibly augmenting Zemeckis' vision by seamlessly becoming a part of Chuck Noland's (Tom Hanks) island exile.
Insurmountable Pacific swells. Disappearing islands. Frightening storms. The silver glint of moonlight at midday. And the first CGI Port-a-Potty.
"I feel one of our biggest challenges was creating so much change without being noticed."
- Ken Ralston, Senior Visual Effects Supervisor
Director: Bob Zemeckis
Producer: Joan Bradshaw, Jack Rapke, Steve Starkey, Tom Hanks
