For the film, the Imageworks team, led by Academy Award nominated visual effects supervisor Richard Hoover, created 301 shots for the show including:
- A truly believable digital clone of Brandon Routh
- A digital version of Superman's famous red cape that could be directed as if it were a character in the film including "reactions" to the environments and events in the story
- A full-scale Boeing 777 airplane and accompanying Space Shuttle in an extensive shuttle disaster sequence
- Metropolis, one of the most famous comic book cities in the world, and its most symbolic building, the Daily Planet
