Our internship program is designed to benefit you if you're striving for a specific artistic goal or to give you more ideas and help orient you if you're still figuring out what you want to do as an artistic or technical person. Currently we are emphasizing our eight week summer program that runs from mid-June through mid-August.

The summer program gives you an opportunity to work with fellow interns while being mentored by seasoned Imageworks' artists. During your time, you will work together with others and concurrently building your own artistic or technical skills. For the first few weeks of the internship you will go through the same training courses a newly hired artist is put through. We encourage you to keep an open mind to all the possible career choices on the shot pipeline by providing various speakers, events, and opportunities for you to experience.

Sande Scoredos Memorial Scholarships are available to students enrolled in accredited colleges and universities. Applicants must be full-time students with a goal of pursuing a profession in animation, visual effects, or related technology. Applications are given out by your faculty representative.

Internship

Sony Pictures Animation and Sony Pictures Imageworks are Academy Award® winning, state-of-the-art digital production studios dedicated to the art and artistry of visual effects and character creation. Our internship program offers individuals a hands-on opportunity to see how a major visual effects company operates, gain insight into the inner workings of the business and the creative dynamics in the industry, and to participate in exciting projects with a diverse cross-section of talented professionals. Exposure to different disciplines within the company will showcase a wide breadth of perspectives within the field. Additionally, firsthand exposure to the production pipeline and process of digital animation, as well as effects for live action, CG features, and stereoscopic productions will be provided. An effort will be made to match the interests of every intern with the activities in the studio and structure an appropriate program for each individual. Summer terms are a full-time (40 hours per week) commitment consisting of eight weeks on site at Sony Pictures Imageworks (U.S. or Canada), Sony Pictures Animation, or Sony Pictures Interactive. While the internship is paid, individuals participating in the program will have to provide for their own expenses, including housing and transportation. Interns are welcomed and given access to the facility and all production tools and software. They are provided with a login, workspace, email account, and phone. Overall, the goal is to provide a rich experience that can benefit the individual while in school and beyond.

How to apply

  1. Confirm eligibility
    • This is a paid internship. Individuals must provide for their own expenses, including housing and transportation.
    • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. or Canada.
    • Reel must show some proficiency in computer animation, computer graphics, or a related field.
    • Submissions must be original work created solely by the applicant.

  • Deadline for the Summer Internship is April 1, 2014.
Selection process

Candidates will be notified by May 1 for the Summer Internship. Selection will be determined by the Sony Pictures IPAX Committee.

Scholarship

Sande Scoredos Memorial Scholarships are available to students enrolled in accredited colleges and universities. Applicants must be full-time students with a goal of pursuing a profession in animation, visual effects, or related technology.

How to apply

  1. Confirm eligibility
    • Must carry a minimum of 12 credits and be a full-time student
    • Must attend an accredited college or university.
    • Must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0
    • Must receive passing grades in all classes
  2. The following items need to be completed when applying:
    • Essay. In 500-1000 words address your goals, how you plan to achieve them and how this scholarship would help.
    • Personal Biography. Tell us a little about yourself. You should include your major and expected degree, GPA and year in program.
    • URL/Website of your Reel. This should be an example of work that demonstrates artistic and/or technical capability. Work samples CANNOT include scripts, film, television or video reproductions. By submitting material, you agree that any materials may be used wholly or in part as promotional material, in public relations material or in any other manner.
  3. Faculty Recommendation Letter Faculty representative downloads and fills this out and sends to ipax+scholarships@imageworks.com with applicant's name in the subject line.
  4. Verification of Enrollment Letter.
  5. Official Student Transcript. Student must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and must receive passing grades in all major classes.
