What do you think drove the King to take such drastic measures for Anne? How much do you think his desire for a legitimate male heir affected his decisions?

Due to Mary's love and admiration for Queen Catherine, she initially feels that she cannot betray her. In what ways are her honorable ideals compromised as she embarks on her adulterous affair with the king? Do you agree that "from start to finish" Mary "had no choice" but to betray Queen Catherine by taking the queen's letter to her uncle?


True Love or Sibling Rivalry?

What began as a bid to help their family gain status quickly developed into a ruthless rivalry between Anne and Mary for the love of the King. Mary feels the she has a talent for loving the king. Is this simply a girl's fantasy or is there truth in her sentiment? Do you feel either sister truly loved the King? Or was this a case of sibling rivalry?
