Cristián de la Fuente portrays legal assistant Andrés
Diaz in FAMILY LAW, the one-hour drama from Columbia TriStar Chilean-born de la Fuente, known as the number one leading man in Chile, has charmed U.S. audiences as well and was recently named one of People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People. While studying civil engineering at the Universidad Catolica in Santiago, Chile, de la Fuente was spotted on campus by a talent scout who encouraged him to enter a national contest in search of "Chile's Superteen." He won the title and a contract with the television network on which the contest was broadcast. In 1995, de la Fuente was cast in Chile's top-rated variety television show, "Venga Conmigo" ("Come with Me"). In 1996, he was chosen for the lead role in the primetime drama "Eclipse de Luna" ("Eclipse the Moon"). The following year, he starred in two critically acclaimed theatrical productions, "La Tia de Carlos" ("Carlos' Aunt") and "Nosotros, Ellas, y El Duende" ("Us, Them, and the Fairy"). While rehearsing a skit for "Venga Conmigo" with guest star Salma Hayek, de la Fuente met an American agent who signed him on the spot. He was soon cast in "Reyes y Rey," the Spanish language version of the 1970s series "Starsky & Hutch." He just wrapped production on the movie "Driven," co-starring Sylvester Stallone, which is due to be released in the summer of 2001.
